Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two individuals to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate James Shinn, of New Jersey, to be Assistant Secretary of Defense (Asian and Pacific Security Affairs). Dr. Shinn currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs. Prior to this, he served as the National Intelligence Officer for East Asia, first in the National Intelligence Council at the Central Intelligence Agency and later in the newly-formed Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Earlier in his career, he was the Senior Fellow for Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Shinn received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University, his MBA from Harvard University, and his PhD from Princeton University.

The President intends to nominate Robert A. Sturgell, of Maryland, to be Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration for a term of five years. Mr. Sturgell currently serves as Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration. Prior to this, he served as Senior Policy Advisor at the National Transportation Safety Board. Earlier in his career, he served as a Flight Operations Supervisor and Line Pilot for United Airlines and an instructor at the Navy Fighter Weapons School. Mr. Sturgell received his bachelor's degree from the United States Naval Academy and his JD from the University of Virginia.
