Mrs. Laura Bush delivers remarks Monday, December 4, 2006, during a program at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, to announce the partnership of the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council with Georgetown University. Also joining Mrs. Bush are, from left, Paula Dobriansky, Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs, U.S. Department of State, Ambassador Said Jawad, Afghan Ambassador to the U.S., and Dr. Jack DeGioia, President, Georgetown University. Formed in 2002, the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council's purpose is to mobilize private sector resources to advance and empower Afghan women while enabling them to have unique training and educational opportunities and a chance to form networking and mentoring relationships in the West.
