President Signs H.R. 1953, H.R. 3829, H.R. 5401, S. 1235, S. 193 and S. 2803

On Thursday, June 15, 2006, the President signed into law:

H.R. 1953, the "San Francisco Old Mint Commemorative Coin Act," which requires the Treasury to mint coins in commemoration of the Old Mint at San Francisco.

H.R. 3829, which designates the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, as the Jack C. Montgomery Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

H.R. 5401, the "Lewis and Clark Commemorative Coin Correction Act," which redirects the distribution of the surcharges raised by the sale of the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Coin.

S. 1235, the "Veterans' Housing Opportunity and Benefits Improvement Act of 2006," which makes changes in several veterans' benefits laws: including life and health insurance programs; housing and homeless programs; and program and benefits administration.

S. 193, the "Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005," which increases the maximum penalties for violations by broadcasters of Federal prohibitions against broadcast of obscene, indecent, or profane language.

S. 2803, the "Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act of 2006," which changes Federal mine safety and rescue team requirements; increases penalties for mine safety violations; establishes a new Office of Mine Safety and Health; and authorizes mining scholarship programs and a mine safety grant program to provide for mining education and training programs.
