"Operation Compassion" volunteers wave to First Lady Laura Bush Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, as she visited Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center. The Convention Center was designated a shelter for Hurricane Katrina evacuees and since opening its doors Sept. 2, more than 35,000 have been served and approximately 46,000 volunteers have been trained.
