Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Mike Leavitt, of Utah, to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. He currently serves as Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Under his leadership, EPA finalized the Clean Air Diesel Rule and convened the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration. Prior to joining the Administration, he served eleven years as Governor of Utah. During that time, he was chosen by the National Governor's Association to represent states in working with Congress on welfare reform, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Plan.

Earlier in his career, Administrator Leavitt was President and Chief Executive Officer of Leavitt Group, a regional insurance firm. He also was a member of the Utah State Board of Regents, overseeing the state's nine colleges and universities. Administrator Leavitt earned his bachelor's degree in economics and business from Southern Utah State University.
