India Opens First Counseling Center for HIV/AIDS Patients

The Indian Network of Positive People and the Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine have opened India's first family counseling center for HIV/AIDS patients. The center is located in Tamil Nadu, a state in southern India. The center provides clients and their families with pre- and post-test counseling, and help with prevention of virus transmission, disease progression, treatment options, health management, and nutrition. The United States has donated $20 million for AIDS relief in India under President Bush's Emergency Plan. India and the United States have been partners in biomedical research and combating diseases for more than 35 years.
