From remarks by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Myers on "Fox News Sunday," 5/2/04

Setting physical and mental conditions for interrogation is done in the military services, but torture is not.

Those who perpetrated the appalling acts of torturing detainees in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison will face justice.

The military began investigating theater-wide issues regarding detainees right after American soldiers told officials what they suspected had been happening.

There is a series of investigations under way -- called Article 32 investigations. Those involved will be held responsible.

Army intelligence officials are investigating whether there is pressure from the intelligence arm of the military, as has been alleged.

This fact is certain: if there is any maltreatment of soldiers or detainees in any way, it will be dealt with.

Soldiers turned in the people who allegedly committed the acts and we are taking action against them.
