Nomination and Appointment
President Bush Today Announced His Intention to Nominate One Individual and Appoint One Individual to Serve as Members of His Administration

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual and appoint one individual to serve as members of his administration.

The President intends to nominate Dana Gioia of California to be the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Mr. Gioia is a poet, critic, educator and former business executive. He has authored several books and is a recipient of the "American Book Award," and was a finalist for the 1992 National Book Critics Award in Criticism. Mr. Gioia received a bachelor's degree and an MBA from Stanford University, and earned a master's degree at Harvard University.

The President intends to appoint Dennis Algiere of Rhode Island to be a Member of the Advisory Committee on the Arts, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Algiere is currently the Rhode Island State Senate Minority Leader and is Senior Vice President of the Washington Trust Company. He is a graduate of Providence College, earned a master's degree from Northeastern and a law degree at the Southern New England School of Law.
