President Signs Recess Appointment of Cynthia Glassman
President Bush Signed the Recess Appointment of Glassman to be a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission

President George W. Bush today signed the recess appointment of Cynthia A. Glassman to be a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The President announced his intention to nominate Ms. Glassman on December 20, 2002, and the nomination was transmitted to the Senate on December 20, 2002.

Glassman has been with Ernst & Young since 1997.  She is currently a Principal in the National Tax Department's Quantitative Economics and Statistics Division and was Director of Commercial Bank Risk Management from 1997 to 1999. From 1988 to 1997, she was Director of Research and then Managing Director at Furash & Company, and from 1986 to 1988 she was Senior Economist at Economists Incorporated.  From 1977 to 1986, Glassman served with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.  Her tenure with the Federal Reserve included two years as an Economist in the Financial Structure Section, Special Assistant to Governor Henry C. Wallich, Economist in the Capital Markets Section and Chief of the Financial Reports Section.  Glassman was an Economics Supervisor at the University of Cambridge in England from 1974 to 1977, and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia from 1971 to 1974.  She has a BA in Economics from Wellesley College, and an MA and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
