Frequently Asked Questions

What is the American Liberty Project?
In a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House, President George W. Bush unveiled the American Liberty Project. The Internet initiative brings online support to those organizations that most need help -- organizations that have been sustaining incredible burdens in order to serve the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks and their families. Visitors can offer financial support to these organizations and obtain general information about the relief effort.

The partners in the American Liberty Project believe that the goodwill and resolve of the American people is more than equal to the task of meeting the needs that have emerged in these terrible days -- and that will continue to emerge in the days and weeks ahead. The partners also believe in the power of the Internet to build communities around important causes and to provide critical support for nonprofit organizations.

How were the charities selected?
The charities highlighted on the American Liberty Project were selected in collaboration with the State of New York, City of New York, Office of the Governor of New York, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Virginia Emergency Response Team.

Who are the partners of the American Liberty Project?
The partners include: Amazon.com, AOL Time Warner, Cisco Systems, eBay, Microsoft, and Yahoo!
