Statement by the Press Secretary

President Bush and Mrs. Bush will host the first Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on the South Lawn of the White House on Friday, May 4, 2001. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the Mexican Army's victory over the French Army at the Battle of Puebla.  The President and Mrs. Bush will be joined by approximately 300 guests including His Excellency Juan Jose Bremer Martino, Ambassador of Mexico, Esai Morales, of NYPD Blue, and Emilio Estefan. Guests will be entertained by Mexican performers Thalia, Pablio Montero and Don Francisco, host of Univision's Sabado Gigante as well as Mariachis and a children's folk ballet group.
