The Arcul de Triumf, designed by architect Petre Antonescu and located in north Bucharest, is 27 meters high and originally was built from wood after Romania gained its independence in 1878 so that victorious troops could march under it. Rebuilt and inaugurated in 1936, the current arch is a gateway to this year's 2008 NATO Summit.
